NEW PARKING SPOTS IN BARGARA TO PROTECT NORFOLK ISLAND PINES What great news for residents and visitors, Thank you to Greg Barnes & Bundaberg Regional Council. Media Release – Posted on February 25, 2014 by gregbarnes More parking spots are on the way for Bargara, with Bundaberg Regional Council starting work on a number of new parking bays along the northern end of the foreshore. Bargara Divisional Representative Cr Greg Barnes said the new parking bays would be consistent with the existing car parks between Whalley Street & Clarke Street to the south. “The new parking spaces are an extension of the existing ones and will facilitate better access to the coastal parkland and walkways once complete,” he said. “We’ve had a lot of feedback from both visitors and locals about the lack of formal parking in the area, which is why Council is undertaking this work.” Cr Barnes said the new car parks would not only help alleviate parking issues in the area but also provided an environmental benefit. “Currently, the amount of constant traffic maneuvering over the site to park is threatening to damage the root systems of the Norfolk Island Pines,” he said. “Sealing the surface will actually help to better protect the trees which have become an iconic part of Bargara’s coastal landscape. “It will also reduce dust caused by constant vehicle movement over the area.”
