NEW STADIUM FOR SDEROT Dear Friends I am sure that like me you feel sorry for the inhabitants of Sderot and those who came to join them from other parts of Israel, having to drag their own chairs up on to the hill night after night to watch the slaughter. So you will be delighted to hear that the Knesset has just passed a bill approving the construction of a new 10,000-seater stadium, with free popcorn, Bibis favourite ice-cream and free binocular hire. The stadium will open in two years time, well in time for the next lawn-mowing World Cup between Israel and Gaza. Guest celebrity Joan Rivers, assuming she has recovered from her current bout of illness (a problem to do with her heart - they couldnt find one) will cut the tape which will at the same time open the new stadium and launch the first round of shells. A spokesman for the Israeli Government issued the following statement. The people of Sderot have suffered for too long for the lack of an adequate stadium. They have shown their loyalty and support and it is about time we recognised this in a concrete way. The Knesset has now acknowledged this and paved the way for this wonderful new project by drafting and passing the new law in record time. I would like to thank them and our friends in the US Congress, who I understand have pledged funding for the construction and maintenance costs of this wonderful new monument to modern Israel and the courage and fortitude of its people.
