NEW YORK: The much-awaited meeting between the prime ministers of Pakistan and India is taking place today (Sunday), Geo News reported. The two leaders are expected to discuss bilateral ties and ways to remove difficulties in normalising relations. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said in his address in the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) a day earlier that he is looking forward to the meeting with Singh to make a “new beginning” and to re-engage with India in a “substantive and purposeful dialogue.” A spokesman for the Pakistan brushed aside the remarks of the Indian prime minister after his meeting with US President Obama, terming Pakistan as the ‘epicentre’ of terrorism. “Pakistan is a victim of terrorism,” the spokesman maintained. To a question Spokesman Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry said that Pakistan expects that both the leaders will find ways to strengthen the mechanism for overcoming the impact of untoward incidents causing the derailment of dialogue. Pakistan is keen to see the peace process to continue without interruption, he said. It is likely that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will be assisted by his Adviser Sartaj Aziz while his Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi will act as note-taker.
