NEW ZEALAND-BORN FILIPINO BEAUTY CROWNED MISS WORLD NEW ZEALAND 2014 09 May 2014 – The Philippine Embassy in Wellington reported that New Zeland-born Arielle Diane Garciano, 22 years old, was crowned Miss World New Zealand 2014 at a beauty pageant held at the Rendezvous Grand Hotel in Auckland on April 26. Her father is a Filipino and her mother is English and they come from Lyttelton, Christchurch. A stunning beauty with a big heart, Miss Garciano actively helped in the Miss World New Zealand Beauty with a Mission project in collaboration with the Rotary Club of New Lynn to raise money for Loren, a Filipino child who has been chosen by the Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children to undergo a successful facial surgery at Starship Hospital in Auckland. In her profile, Miss Garciano said that being a New Zealander with parents of different ethnicities “has enabled me to widen my life’s perspectives.” She loves fashion, art and travelling. According to Miss Garciano, “I feel privileged to be part of this year’s event. I am going to use it as a platform to find new passions, gain new skills and opportunities that I otherwise wouldn’t have access to…my ideal job would involve inspiring and helping other people positively.” In her message to the Philippine Embassy in Wellington, Miss Garciano said, “I am the youngest of four siblings. My brother Carlo being the oldest, next to my sister Ninya, then Lareesa before myself. My Tatay moved to New Zealand 32 years ago in November, when he and my mother fell in love and got married in the beautiful port of Lyttelton, Chirstchurch. I have spent most of my life living here. I studied at Cashmere High School year of 09. I currently work at Plumbing World as Branch Sales Coordinator. This year I will be focusing on Miss World, modelling, charity events for my Miss World Beauty with a Mission. My Tatay is from Camotus Island, Cebu. I am fortunate enough to have visited the Philippines 3 times. I love the Philippines so much, its such a beautiful country. If I could, I would visit every year. I have been dreaming of going back for such a long time, to see my family who I miss. Hopefully, I can make it this year, maybe after the Miss World 2014 final in November, that will be held in London. I would like to thank all of the New Zealand Filipino community for all of your support, it really means a lot to me. In congratulating Miss Garciano, Philippine Ambassador to New Zealand Virginia H. Benavidez stated that the beauty queen embodies the best of both Filipino and New Zealand cultures and values, exemplifies the Filipina’s innate warmth, beauty and hospitality and demonstrates a caring spirit to help make a difference in people’s lives and contribute to humanitarian causes and charitable projects. “Your sacrifices and efforts to help bring 5-year old Loren to New Zealand for a life changing experience are truly laudable and exemplary. You carry yourself with innate poise, grace, aura, intelligence and compassion. With our heartfelt prayers and best wishes as you embark on another chapter in your life to fulfill your dreams and as you carry with you the cheers, applause and prayers from your family and all of us from the Filipino community and people from New Zealand and the wider community here,” Ambassador Benavidez stated.
