It was based on komiks characters created by Carlo J. Caparas and illustrated by Steve Gan. “Ang Panday” was a box office hit during the 1980 Metro Manila Film Festival and led to three sequels also starring FPJ and shown during the annual yuletide festival: “Ang Pagbabalik ng Panday” (1981), “Ang Panday: Ikatlong Yugto” (1982) and “Ang Panday IV: Ikaapat na Aklat” (1984).
