NEWS: Are you looking after somebody else’s child? #Gloucestershire County Council is reminding people who look after a child who isn’t part of their own family to let the council know. Looking after someone else’s child is known as private fostering and it can be a really positive experience for children and young people, but can put others at risk. That’s why as part of this year’s Private Fostering Awareness Week, starting on Sunday 6th July, people are being urged to let the county council know. Private fostering is when a child under 16 (or under 18 with disabilities) is cared for by someone other than a close family member (parent, step-parent, grandparent, sibling, aunt or uncle) for more than 28 days. Last year there were also a higher number of 15-year-olds in private fostering arrangements in Gloucestershire, who completed their GCSEs and made arrangements for post-16 education due to the kindness and commitment of their carers. If you are aware of a private fostering arrangement in Gloucestershire, please contact the Children & Families Helpdesk on 01452 426565. To find out more about private fostering or fostering in general come along to one of the information stands below: Tuesday 8th July – Tesco, Stroud, GL5 4AG, 11am-5pm Wednesday 9th July – ASDA, Bruton Way, Gloucester, GL1 1DS, 10am – 4pm Thursday 10th July – Tesco, Colletts Drive, Cheltenham, GL51 8JQ , 10am-4pm
