NEWS FLASH Agbaje and Obanikoro PDP gov primaries: Agbaje floors Obanikoro– Punch • Maku, Wogu lose • Ribadu, Wike, Folarin win Barely four months after joining the Peoples Democratic Party, a pharmacist and an entrepreneur, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, on Monday emerged as the PDP governorship candidate for Lagos State. He defeated a former Minister of State for Defence and Nigeria’s ex-High Commissioner to Ghana, Musiliu Obanikoro, who was touted as the leading contestant in the primary. Agbaje scored 432 votes as against the 346 by Obanikoro. The other aspirants, Babatunde Gbadamosi got 21 votes; Tokunbo Kamson, 46 votes and Adedeji Doherty, 21 votes. The exercise was nearly marred by violence following a controversy which surrounded the number of votes cast by the delegates. General Muhammadu Buhari Boko Haram: Corruption sabotaging Nigerian Army’s efforts – Buhari- Daily Independent Presidential aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), has blamed the Federal Government for allowing corruption to thrive, which according to him, has sabotaged the efforts of the Nigerian Army in the fight against the Boko Haram insurgency. Buhari, who was a guest on Channels Television, ‘Politics Today’ on Sunday evening, described the Federal Government’s effort in fighting the sect as unsatisfactory, maintaining that the current government must be voted out in 2015. The former Head of State, while expressing worry that the government could not mobilise the country’s law enforcement agencies, to at least know where the abducted Chibok girls are, explained that the insecurity gripping the nation now is intolerable. According to him, “Nigeria is more than capable of fighting against this insurgency; if we can fight a civil war successfully for 30 months, without borrowing a kobo, I wonder how this government, despite what it allocates to security, rushed to the National Assembly to seek a $1 billion loan, to fight the insurgency. FG orders release of seized French cargo aircraft– National Mirror The Federal Government yesterday ordered the release of the controversial Russian made but French owned Antonov aircraft, which was impounded on Saturday at the Aminu Kano International Airport, MAKIA, Kano, enroute N’djamena, Chad. Chief of the Air Staff, CAS, Air Marshall Adesola Amosu announced this in Abuja, during a joint press conference with the French Defence Attache to Nigeria, Col. Marc Humbert. Amosu said that even though Nigeria and France had a year-long arrangement called ‘block clearance’ whereby both countries’ aircraft are allowed to land or use the airspace under certain conditions, the seized aircraft did not follow proper procedure required in the arrangement. FG orders release of seized plane in Kano- Tribune The Federal Government, on Monday ordered the immediate release of a Russian-made Antonov 124 plane, with registration RA82038, saying it was on a legitimate flight to N’djamena Chad. Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Adesola Amosu, who announced the release while briefing newsmen in Abuja, in company of the French defence attaché, Colonel Mark Ombe Humbert, who said the aircraft was carrying two helicopters and some Christmas gifts for French soldiers, so as to lift up their spirit in N’djamena. The Air Force chief, who announced that there was no arm or weaponry in the aircraft, said there were also two gazelle helicopters and light laison, a rover armoured-plated vehicle for VIPs, propeller blades and some items for entertainment. They want the double-amputee track star to be convicted of a more serious charge and to face a longer prison term. On Tuesday, a court in Pretoria began hearing arguments for and against an appeal of the original verdict in which Pistorius was found guilty of culpable homicide, or negligent killing, in the death of Reeva Steenkamp. Pistorius wasnt expected to attend the hearing.
