NEWS FLASH (UPDATE): High court restrains PDP, Tukur, Uzodinma on Suntai Posted by: legis admin Posted date: June 4, 2013 | 11:09 pm In: EXCLUSIVE LEGISREPORTS – Moves by the national headquarters of the ruling People Democratic Party (PDP) to investigate the continuous absence of Governor Danbaba Suntai of Taraba state from office may have been stalled as the High Court sitting in Jalingo the capital of Taraba state today restrained a committee constituted for the purpose from carrying out its assignment. It will be recalled that the national leadership of the PDP recently inaugurated a ten man committee headed by Senator Hope Uzodinma charged with the responsibility of finding permanent solution to the long absence of the governor who is said to be recuperating in a US hospital after being involved in an aircraft crash last October. The suit against the National Headquarters of the party which was filed by some PDP members in the state has Barrister Ibrahim Effiong as the lead counsel. Effiong who is the present state chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association {NBA} argued before the court that the PDP at the national level has no constitutional power to wade into the continuous absence of the governor because the “constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has already addressed the situation.” He argued that the constitution “supersedes” the activities of the committee hence the need for the court to as a matter of urgency halt the committee from carrying out its assigned responsibilities in the state. In his ruling, Justice Nuhu Adi, restrained the panel to stay action as the constitution, according to him has long addressed the matter.
