NEWS FROM DNREC - Brandywine Creek State Park to hold annual controlled deer hunt Dec. 16-17 WILMINGTON (Dec. 11, 2014) – Brandywine Creek State Park will be completely closed to the general public on Tuesday, Dec. 16 and Wednesday, Dec. 17 – including the nature center and park office – for its annual controlled deer hunt, DNREC announced today. Managed by the Division of Fish & Wildlife and the Division of Parks and Recreation, the hunt will be conducted from deer stands and will encompass both sides of the park. Signs and staff members will be posted in the park to alert the public about the hunt. The controlled hunt has been held annually since 1994 to reduce the number of white-tailed deer on the 1,000-acre park to a manageable level and curb the serious habitat damage being caused by the foraging animals. Deer damage most often shows up in the steady decline of vegetation. Hunting is not otherwise permitted in the park. For more information on the hunt, please call the Brandywine Creek State Park office at 302-577-3534, or Rob Line, environmental stewardship manager, at 302-739-9220.
