NEWS: MUIR HANDED A THREE-GAME BAN THREE-MATCH BAN FOR FIFES MUIR Player:Tom Muir Number: 2 Team: Fife Flyers During the game Dundee Stars v Fife Flyers on 19/10/2014, The Department of Player Safety has automatically reviewed the two-minute minor + 10-minute misconduct penalty that Muir received for checking to the head at 16:56 in the third period. The Department of Player Safety has reviewed this incident and has come to the following conclusions: • The hit is an illegal check to the head, in which the head was recklessly targeted, with the elbow making principal point of contact with Blight’s head. • Muirs elbow is extended when making the hit. • There is no intent to play the puck. • The hit is avoidable. • The opponent did not make any sudden movements just prior to contact. • There is an apparent injury to Blight as a result of this hit to the head. The Department of Player Safety has upgraded the two-minute minor + 10-minute misconduct penalty received on the night to a five-minute major + game misconduct for checking to the head and neck under IIHF rule 124 for this hit - and has suspended Muir for three (3) matches.
