NEWS: Maiden Arunachal Carnival Kick Starts -Nima Khenrab GUWAHATI, Oct 03: The maiden ‘Arunachal Carnival 2014’ organized by Northeast Today and Guwahati Arunachal Students’ Union (GASU) kicks off in a grand style today at Guwahati, Assam. Union Minister of State for Home, Kiren Rijiju graced the inaugural function as the Chief Guest. The festival was attended by the architect of the festival Chombay Kee, Chief Executive Director of Northeast Today and host of other national media and thousands of euphoric students and people from all over Northeast. The three-day-long gala socio-cultural extravaganza got a major facelift with the presence of Kiren Rijiju at the festival. “We Northeasterners have to live united and at the same time we have to prove our potentials at both national and international level. During my recent visit to the USA, I was overwhelmed to see the response of Northeast people.” Rijiju said while expressing his views and future plans of forming a global platform of association and interaction for the people of the region living in India and abroad. Appreciating the initiative and lauding the organizers, Rijiju urged, “Arunachal Carnival is a positive initiative, which will make the people of Northeast feel united. I will try and provide all possible help so that in future the event gets bigger and better”. “The youths of Arunachal Pradesh should be determined to bring a positive change in the state of Arunachal Pradesh. You are the backbone and should constantly strive to work for the betterment of the state”, he said on a personal note. On inquiring the objective of the carnival, Chombay Kee, explained, “The main objective of the festival is to create awareness about the life style, culture and traditions of Arunachal Pradesh to the rest of India. I am hopeful that the festival will not only be a vital medium in bridging the people of mainland India to the rest of Northeast but also instigate the spirit of oneness and unity amongst the students living outside Northeast.” “This initiative will also provide the students a chance to showcase their talents at a bigger platform and keep them reminded of their roots which will help boost their overall personality”, he further added. The festival will showcase award winning international and national movies which will include short films and documentaries of Arunachal Pradesh, for the professional photographers who have captured Arunachal Pradesh in stills will have an opportunity to showcase their talent, educational debate on pertinent topics of the state such as tourism, judiciary system and health; and other attractions such as food festival, fashion show, ethnic dance show, performance by singing stars of Northeast region and, performance by Bollywood artistes is also on the card. All in all the festival is set to showcase entire Arunachal at a single venue. The organising committee extended its heart felt gratitude to Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Nabam Tuki and Minsiter Tourism, UD, Town Planning etc. Pema Khandu for their support and assistance in organising the mega event.
