Modern trade is definitely the phenomenon of the 21st century in Vietnam. From less than five percent at the beginning of the century, the share of modern trade now represents about 20%. Both Vietnamese and Foreign groups keep investing heavily in this booming sector. Specific to modern trade are retailer brands also known as private label. Obviously they also enjoy a rapid growth, at the detriment of regular brands (in Switzerland their share is as high as 46% of FMCG sales). About Speakers: Ms Edith Valkeneers is Director of Modern trade and customer marketing at Unilever Vietnam; she has been already three years in Vietnam and spent ten years in total at Unilever. Prof Marianne Claes is Dean of the Solvay Brussels School programs in Vietnam. She holds a master in Management Science and is specialized in Marketing. She also has an extensive experience in the private sector with five years at Procter & Gamble and 16 years heading the European marketing of Lee at VF Corporation, leading global apparel company.
