NEWS RELEASE: Howard County inmate charged with murder for hire scheme. An inmate at the Howard County Detention Center in Jessup has been charged with solicitation to commit first-degree murder after attempting to coordinate a plan to have two people killed outside the jail. Police received a tip that Bernard Perez-Garcia, who was being held in the facility on federal immigration violations, was looking for someone to kill his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend, and the ex-boyfriend’s mother. It appears to detectives that the motive was strictly domestic-related. An undercover detective met at the jail with Perez-Garcia, posing as a prospective “hit man.” Perez-Garcia advised that he wanted two people on the outside killed. He told the detective he wanted the case to look like a robbery at a store owned by the victims in Langley Park. He gave the detective the male victim’s name and his car description, and he advised he would settle payment for the act after it was done. Perez-Garcia is facing two counts of solicitation to commit first-degree murder and remains in the Howard County Detention Center on no bond. ###
