NEWS RELEASE: Police charge man with armed robbery, attempted car jacking Howard County police have charged an Elkridge man with the armed robbery and attempted car jacking of a woman at an Elkridge gas station. On Sept. 23, at 8:34 p.m., police responded to the BP gas station in the 5800 block of Washington Boulevard for a report of an armed robbery and attempted car jacking. A suspect approached a woman and asked for money. The woman refused and the suspect repeatedly threatened her with a knife and ordered her to get into her car. The woman refused to get back into her vehicle and threw her wallet at the suspect, then ran into the gas station and called police. The suspect picked up the wallet and walked away. The suspect was described as a while male, 6’1” to 6’ 3” tall, 24-27 years old, with a skinny build, brown hair, wearing a red-hooded sweatshirt, black jacket and dark pants. The manager of the gas station recognized the suspect from the day before, when a man fitting the same description and wearing a red-hooded sweatshirt had sought to be hired to cut the grass at the gas station. The man handed the manager a landscaping business card that contained the names and phone numbers of the man’s two brothers. Upon further investigation, the suspect was identified as Erik Lee Madison, 28, of 5729 Main Street, Elkridge. Madison was charged with attempted car jacking, attempted kidnapping, first-degree assault, armed robbery, robbery and theft. He is being held in the Howard County Detention Center on $75,000 bail.
