#NEWS REPORTING DATES RELEASED BY Tony Irungu Academic dates for various groups in Moi University have been released with the incoming 2nd years expected to report back on 10th march 2014. This follows a meeting held at Kitale campus today (Friday 17th) by the senate time tabling committee. Confirming the dates to the 3rd eye, MUSO Chairman Kipsaro Boit franked by eight SGC members expressed confidence that the senate will approve the dates that have been set for the next three semesters. The 2nd semester and the 1st semester for the current 1st years and incoming 2nd years is expected to start on 10th march 2014 to June 6th. Incoming 3rd years and 4th years are expected to start their 1st semester on 16th June to 12th September while the incoming 2nd years will start their 2nd semester in the same date. The academic year for the current 1st years will end on 6th June. 2ND semester for incoming 3rd and 4th years will start on 22nd September up to 24th December. The 2nd semester for the all engineering students will go up to 19th May after which they will break for holiday. The SGC has expressed faith that all the incoming 2nd years will be adequately accommodated. The 3,800 incoming 2nd years will take 2,800 beds paces to be left by 4th years with the extra 1000 being accommodated at stage where more than 1000 bed spaces have been secured. According to the SGC a new hostel to be located behind the administration block is expected to be complete by June 2014, adding up to the 15000 bed capacity hostel promised by the jubilee government which has already been gazzetted as a top government priority. The university is also constructing 7 lecture halls to accommodate 1200 students expected to be up by 10th march. The announcement has come at a time that Moi University has been hit by crises which has put the management under pressure with students decrying the unprecedented state of affairs in the government run institution of higher learning.
