NEWS ROUND UP EID MUBARAK: Muslims in Uganda today joined millions of counterparts elsewhere in the world to celebrate Eid Adhuha. Police had warned of possible terrorist threats and had thus deployed heavily at a number of places where prayers were held. The Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadan Mubajje in his Eid Adhuha message appealed to Muslims to denounce bloodshed because Islam is not a religion of terrorism. Due to the celebrations, all UCE exams scheduled for today were postponed, to allow Muslim students join in the celebrations. INJURED: A bus traveling from Kampala to Masaka has overturned, leaving 31 people including 6 UPDF soldiers seriously injured. The vehicle belonging to Swift Bus Company is said to have been speeding thus overturning three times. In a separate incident, 24 people remain admitted at Kampala International hospital in Bushenyi after their bus rammed into a trailer carrying soda last night. One person died instantly. GANG-RAPE CASE: The 23 year old young woman who was gang-raped by Pakistan investors has been admitted to one of the women protection centers for psychological counseling by the Action Aid Uganda following death threats she received from unknown people. Government has since asked the Pakistan consulate to help the authorities in Uganda in identifying the other three Pakistan citizens who have since the incident, gone into hiding. RURAL WOMEN’S DAY: Today was the International Day of Rural Women, first observed on 15 October 2008. This day recognizes the critical role and contribution of rural women, in enhancing agricultural and rural development, improving food security and eradicating rural poverty. ARRESTED: Police in Enugu, south-eastern Nigeria, have arrested a woman who allegedly conspired with a commercial motorcyclist to stage her own kidnap and demand ransom from her husband. CHARGED: A man who allegedly tried to break into Buckingham Palace carrying a knife has been charged. David Belmar, 44, was arrested after he attempted to enter the Queens London home. BLASTS: The governor of Afghanistans Logar province has been killed during Eid prayers by a bomb blast inside an area mosque. The bomb had been hidden in a microphone. A bomb targeting Muslim worshippers also killed nine in Iraq. IRAN NUCLEAR TALKS START: World powers have held their first nuclear negotiations with Iran since Hassan Rouhani became the countrys president in August.
