NEWS ROUND-UP MWEENE, KATONGO FACE OFF IN PSL Chipolopolo number 1 Kennedy Mweene returned to league action in his usual starting place as Mamelodi Sundowns were frustrated 0-0 by a highly defensive Bidvest Wits which included expelled Zambia skipper Chris Katongo for the last two minutes of the match. The face-off between Mweene and Katongo was however a short affair as the 2012 BBC African Footballer of the Year was only thrown into the action with just two minutes before full-time. Katongo was thrown out of the Chipolopolo camp ahead of Zambias 3-0 thumping of Niger for tactical indiscipline. Katongo is alleged to have questioned the technical bench tactics and playing strategies which were deemed divisive and a danger to team unity. He returned to his base immediately after his Zambia expulsion and was only an 88th minute substitute on Saturday. The first and only Zambian skipper yet to lift the Africa Cup still awaits his first goal of the season. In other PSL action involving Zambian sons, Bornwell Mwape was helpless to help his struggling Amazulu as hey sank to a 1-0 home defeat against Chippa United. LUBAMBO CONTINUES SHINING ARMERIA: Rising midfield sensation Lubambo Musonda continued to enjoy scintillating form in Europe as he put in an excellent shift to help league leaders FC Ulisses hammer Gandzasar 7-1 in the Armenian top flight. The Zambia Under-20 skipper has been ignored by Chipolopolo coach Honour Janza whose side has struggled in Afcon qualifiers with a squad of aging stars. SWITZERLAND: Nathan Sinkala is out of weekend action for Grasshopper Zurich after returning to Switzerland with a fever. Im just happy Ive helped my team win the league, Chivuta tweeted after Korat wrapped up the title with a 4-1 thrashing of Sriracha during which he grabbed a brace. ***** MAYUKA FINALLY MAKES SAINTS DEBUT IN SAINTS BIG WIN Fresh from helping Zambia revive her Afcon hopes in the 3-0 thumping of Niger, Emmanuel Mayuka made his long-awaited Barclays Premiership debut as Roanld Koeman sent in the Zambian forward in the 80th minute for his first taste of English top flight football this season. The Saints blew-apart Sunderland 8-0. Mayuka was however not among the goal scorers. ***** ITS NKANA VS ZESCO UNITED IN BACLAY CUP FINAL Defending league kings Kalampa will face three-times Barclays Cup winners Zesco United in the final of the 2014 championship on November 22 at a yet to be named venue. Kalampa defeated Konkola Blades 2-0 in the semi-finals while Zesco silenced Napsa Stars 1-0 to set up a mouth-watering Barclays finale. ***** MIGHTY SET FOR TOP FLIGHT RETURN Mighty Mufulira Wanderers handed themselves a huge win in the race to return to the Super League with a 1-0 victory away at Zesco Luapula. With three matches to the close of the season, Wanderers moved to 60points, a point ahead of Forest Rangers who could take back leadership with a win against Kansanshi Dyanamos on Sunday. The top two team teams in each of the respective first division zones win promotion. ***** CHIPOLOPOLO QUEENS, RETURN HOME AFTER POOR AWC SHOWING The Zambia Women team, beset by allegations of poor diet and lack of allowances and is back home after headlining the African Women championship with the biggest defeat of the tournament – the 6-0 thrashing at the hands of Nigeria. Chipolopolo Queens also lost 2-0 to Namibia before a 1-1 draw against Cote dIvoire in a formality group fixture.
