NEWS: SCOON MAKES GB SQUAD FOR DUMFRIES BETH SCOON has been named in the provisional Great Britain Womens squad for the World Championships taking place in Dumfries later this year. She is the only Scot named with the final team to be announced in February ahead of the championships, which begin in late March. The six-team tournament will be hosted by GB and they will face Croatia, Kazakhstan, Korea, New Zealand and Poland from 30th March to 5th April 2015. The coaching staff held their final selection camp the weekend before Christmas, with overseas players returning alongside the UK-based squad to be assessed over the weekend before the squad selection. Coach, Paul Burton, said: The selection process is the same for all players, including those overseas. All players are monitored over the season with the same testing procedure and the results sent back to our strength and conditioning team at the University of Gloucester. We are also in touch with the overseas players coaches who keep us informed of the players progress on a monthly basis, so we have a pretty good idea of where all the players are at. The squad will work together over the next two months, before a team is selected to play a couple of warm-up games in the Netherlands in early February. The team to play in this years World Championship will be announced in mid-February. Ice Hockey UK have given us the opportunity to prepare for the World Championship on home ice next year, with warm-up games against international opposition before announcing the team to play in Dumfries. The squad looks strong with good strength in depth and an excellent work ethic. Over the next three months we will concentrate on systems development, alongside the girls personal strength and conditioning programmes, which should put us in good shape for the Worlds.
