NEWS; Some fishermen in Axim in the Western Region, are threatening to drag the Fisheries Commission to court for not effectively enforcing fisheries regulations to ensure sanity in the fisheries industry. According to the fishermen, the commission has been very lukewarm to their plight, stating that, the inability of the commission to adequately enforce the law has resulted in the numerous illegal fishing practices in the industry. They say the situation has affected the rate of catches and was eventually impoverishing the fisher-folks. The leader of the fishermen, Mike Abakah Edu, who disclosed their intention in an interview with Cedi Report, said the heading to court action is the only way to keep the commission on its toes. He emphasized that the mandate of the commission to preserve the fishing industry was clearly enshrined in the Fisheries Commission Act (Act 625) of 2002 and LI 1968 of 2010 but the commission has neglected such an obligation. He said the group has already spoken to their lawyer and would soon proceed to court to seek redress on the matter. For him the commission must be up and doing
