NEWS UPDATE @ 3PM WITH Orange Uganda: INJURED: UPDF spokesman Lt Col Paddy Ankunda has confirmed that several people have been injured after bombshells, believed to have come from DRC forces hit Kisoro. Two explosions were this morning heard near Bunagana along the Uganda-DRC border. TEARGAS: Buganda kingdom’s royal guards have today morning clashed with residents of Kasokoso who had gathered at the King’s Banda palace to report failed land eviction. Kampala Police had earlier fired live ammunition and teargas canisters at the residents after they tried to protest the land eviction that is being spearheaded by National housing and construction. Two protesters reportedly sustained gunshot wounds. The situation is reportedly now calm though residents say the eviction is unfair. ECLIPSE AFTERMATH: The Uganda Red Cross has said they have registered a total of 42 cases in which viewers of Sundays hybrid eclipse in Pakwach sustained injuries while watching the eclipse. Some are related to panic and excitement while others are eye-related. One of the victims is a 3-year-old. CHARGED: Four people said to be of Somali origin have been charged over the siege at Kenya’s Westgate shopping centre, in which more than 60 people died, police say. The four foreigners have been charged with aiding terrorist groups in Kenya and being in Kenya illegally. The four have been named as Mohammed Ahmed Abdi, Liban Abdullah, Adnan Ibrahim and Hussein Hassan. GANGSTERS KILLED: Six people have died after residents of a township on the outskirts of Johannesburg attacked a group of suspected gang members, South African police says. Some of the victims were burned alive and two stoned to death. This came after a group of 400 men living in the township met to discuss the problems caused by local gangs. Residents of South Africas townships frequently take justice into their own hands, frustrated by what they see as the failure of the countrys police and justice system to tackle crime.
