NEWS UPDATE AT 9 AM WITH ORANGE Somalias Al-Qaeda-linked Al Shabab terrorists have claimed responsibility for the attack on an army convoy across the border in Kenya yesterday that killed several soldiers. Al-shabab spokesman Abdulaziz Abu Musab said that the terrorists had killed all the Kenyan soldiers on the lorry as well as five police officers, and that they had also stolen two pickup trucks and taken them across the border to Somalia. However, Kenyan government has rubbished these claims explaining that no one was killed or wounded during this attack. The ambush is the latest in a wave of attacks in Kenya that authorities have blamed on militants connected to the Al-shabab. The Uganda Bureau of Statistics is seeking for an additional 90 billion shillings to complete this year’s intended national census. The executive director UBOS Ben Paul Mungyereza, says had already received 100 billion shillings which they used in preparations ahead of the census. According to the national census coordinator Francis Mashate, the additional 90 billion shillings will be used on filed staff training and salaries. with only a day to the Luweero district woman Member of Parliament by-election, police has already deployed heavily in the district in a move intended at starving off any possible chaos. According to savanna region spokesperson Lamech Kigozi, the force will deploy a police constable at each of the 375 polling station including non-uniformed officers in different sub-counties. However, the forces has dismissed earlier claims that it has stopped non Luweero residents from accessing the district saying that the force only stopped the non-resident from engaging into the election. The by-election will be held on Thursday. China has denounced charges brought by the US against five army officers accused of economic cyber-espionage.
