NEWS UPDATE:: Last week Peter Cochran and I had a meeting with Environment Minister Rob Stokes in Sydney along with his Policy Advisor and four NPWS Directors in attendance. We shared with the minister our concerns of the blatant bias in the public consultation process by NPWS regarding the issue of wild horse management as well as other issues regarding brumbies and the Management Plan. He seemed to be very interested and very concerned about what we were telling him. We explained the history of the brumbies in the mountains and of the history of their managment by the mountain horsemen for nearly 170 years and how we believe this should again be permitted under possibly accreditation. I handed a very supportive message to the Minister from Professional Horseman Guy McLean and papers from myself and Richard Crispin as well as a recent letter and report from Wild Horse Ecologist Craig Downer on his recent visit to the mountains, hosted by SMBUG and SMHRA. We invited the Minister to come and visit and see the mountains and the brumbies for himself hopefully in the next few months after the election to demonstrate to him that his city centric green friends are not always telling the truth. After an hour meeting we were then joined by the NSW Coalition of horseriders (Aust Horse Alliance, NSW Endurance Riders and BiCentennial National Trail) to further discuss horse riding in Wilderness under the Strategic Directions Plan and its issues for another 40 minutes. I feel that the meeting was very positive and certainly opened up some eyes and hopefully minds. The minister was also shown our SMHRA presentation movie (10 minutes) which got us all in the mood to start and which can be viewed here on Youtube. youtu.be/zKq2luOD4O0 Please like the video and share.
