NEWS UPDATE: The Constitutional Court has today nullified the re-appointment of retired Chief Justice Benjamin Odoki after 4 of the 5 judges ruled that it was unconstitutional for President Museveni to re-appoint him. In their ruling, the five judges; Justices Lilian Tibatemwa, Eldad Mwanguhya, Solomy Balungi Bossa and Remmy Kasule this morning agreed that the 1995 Constitution of the Republic of Uganda does not provide for such re-appointments. The reappointment of the retired Chief Justice was challenged in court by Western Youth MP Gerald Karuhanga on grounds that it was unconstitutional because he had clocked the mandatory constitutional retirement age of 70.
