NEWS UPDATES AT 9O’CLOCK WITH ORANGE. World Health Organisation has warned beneficiaries of the distribution of mosquito nets in the country to use them properly if malaria is to be fought. The body’s country representative Dr Alemu says that the misuse of mosquito nets will bog down the goal of eliminating malaria. This follows many beneficiaries altering the nets’ purpose, using them for fishing. Meanwhile, the 2014/15 national Budget prioritizes the implementation of the malaria strategy for effective control through mass distribution of long lasting insecticide treated nets and mass indoor residual spraying in high malaria prone areas of Lake Kyoga and northern Uganda. The Deputy Chief Administrative Officer for Kanungu District, Simon Peter Kandole, who allegedly criticized the ongoing National Identity card exercise during a stakeholders meeting in Kabale in April has been interdicted. Amidst investigations, Kandole will be receiving half his monthly salary, should not frequent the district offices unless necessary and should seek permission from the permanent secretary before he can travel out of the country. The deputy CAO who is expected to write his defence says the allegations are malicious and untrue. A 150 million rural electrification project has been launched in Gaaza village Bamunanika County. Minister of state for higher education also Bamunanika member of parliament, Chrysostom Muyingo, officiated the launch and urged the community to embrace the project for their own benefit. The project is under Government Rural electrification program which was developed to identify corrective measures for improving performance of the energy sector, focusing on measures to accelerate electricity access while ensuring program efficiency and sustainability. Residents of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, are stockpiling food and water as Islamist militants move closer. Fighting between ISIS and the security forces, supported by Shia militias, has raged around the city of Baquba, only 60km away from the capital.
