US Constitution was being violated on massive scale – Snowden Speaking via video link, former NSA employee Edward Snowden has made a statement dedicated to the fight against mass surveillance. Snowden declared that NSA is the world’s mass surveillance and “If data is being clandestinely acquired, and the public doesnt have any way to review it, and its not legislatively authorized, its not reviewed by the courts, its not consonant with our Constitution, thats a problem,”- said #Snowden. He was sitting in front of a giant replica of the US Constitutions first page. Edward Snowden urged the technology community to improve the security for internet users against mass surveillance by governments and other data breaches. The revelations of spying programs used by the United States and other countries have sparked continuing security and diplomatic rows. Snowden, who will face criminal prosecution if he returns to the United States, denied that his leaks had undermined national security. Snowden is accused of illegal disclosure of classified information. Snowden pointed at the tremendous intelligence failures related to the Boston terrorist attack because instead of focusing on monitoring the suspects communications, the special service spied on everyone. Snowden appealed for a stronger control on intelligence gathering and accused Congress of inability to do that. “The problem is when your overseers arent interested in oversight, when weve got Senate intelligence committees, House intelligence committees that are cheerleading for the NSA instead of holding them to account.” “Regardless of what happens to me, this is something we had a right to know. I took an oath to support and defend the Constitution, and I felt that the Constitution was violated on a massive scale.” Snowden said that if he had to make the decision once more, he would do exactly the same he had done. Do you think that the concept of global surveillance should be abandoned completely or perhaps some of its components could actually be used for a greater good? Where should the borderline between government’s security concerns and its citizens’ privacy should be drawn?
