This is something I’ve said since the beginning. I was expecting a more colored life. Although hundreds of souls are walking on the student’s house hallways, someone can feel in the air an atmosphere of cold, of indifference and selfishness. They knock at your door only if they need salt, or a mop, or want to know why the plugs aren’t working. Otherwise, everyone is an uninvited guest, joining the other at not so proper hours. [What is the students’ house?] Zoltán Rostás/ [...] Why did I proposed this project, together with my repented student and assistant Sorin Stoica? I could say we were not pleased with the studies (few in number) about students, about young people and especially about the political discourse regarding the young generation. But we also were curious, from different personal reasons: he never lived in a students’ house; I did, but a long time ago. And my belief is – without denying the importance of researching the students’ political behaviour or their migration options – that we cannot live without knowing the hidden dimensions of their lives. With all the transitory feature of the students’ life in these houses, they create in this space a whole society and a distinct culture. cooperativag.ro/ce-este-caminul-studentesc/ REVIEW Bizutaj de stat [The state bizutage] [RO] Tania Radu/ Zoltan Rostas, from whom we already have a long series of oral histories, asked his own students to describe what they live in the students’ houses from Leu, Grozăveşti, Regie, Kogălniceanu, Panduri, Fundeni, and in the ones belonging to the Arts University. Afterwards he just put them togheter. Unfortunately, the ones who are writing do not subscribe do the sociological prototype of the student living in this places, but a more “reflexive” option of their category, more opened to objectively analyze their statuses. The result is a mix of controlled honesty and accepted mission, from which emerges, many times, the euphoria of discovering themselves. The touching discovery comes along, in many cases, with an ingenuous postmodern writing style, in which the self is also present and absent, innocent and not so much. Clopoţel was, in the same time, one of the most passionate and competent researcher of the social reality. In his field activity he managed to cover the whole period between the two World Wars. The methodology he proposed and used integrated in an original manner three major directions of the social research available at that moment on an international and national level: the sociographist model of S. R. Steinmetz, the work plan based on family budgets of Frèderic Le Play and the sociological monograph of Dimitrie Gusti.
