NFF Praise Jonathan For Backing Eagles -Bank On Govt Support To Beat Ethiopia The leadership of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has once again showed encomiums on President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (GCFR) for what officials at the soccer governing body call his continued ‘unquantifiable support for the country’s football.’ Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday, NFF president, Alhaji Aminu Maigari eulogized President Jonathan for special interest the nation’s number one citizen has showed the round leather game. Maigari further praised the president’s fatherly love that has seen the Federal Government more than committed to enabling adequate preparation of the various national teams for international competitions, followed by ample reward of excellence. NFF head of media, Ademola Olajire recalled in a press release that President Jonathan stormed the Eagles’ hotel in Johannesburg, on the eve of their first match of the 2010 FIFA World Cup against Argentina, alongside senate president, Senator David Mark, business titan, Otunba Mike Adenuga Jnr and several other top government functionaries. Olajire noted that the President also paid a surprise visit to the Eagles’ training session in Abuja ahead of their 2013 Africa Cup of Nations final qualifying fixture, first leg in Liberia, and only missed the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations final in Johannesburg as a result of an unscheduled visit to Europe. President Jonathan is also on record to have rewarded all categories of the National Teams, with the Super Falcons, Falconets and Flamingos having earned reward for impressive outings at global championships, and the Flying Eagles and Golden Eaglets also smiling after continental outings this year. Earlier in the year, after winning the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in 19 years, Super Eagles’ players and officials were rewarded with national awards, cash and land gifts. While also applauding the high-level of co-operation and understanding that minister of sports, National Sports Commission (NSC) chairman, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi has given the NFF at all times, Maigari enthused that the high level of backing the body has received from The Presidency will boost the search for victory in Sunday’s World Cup qualifier against Ethiopia. Nigeria take on Ethiopia’s Walya Antelopes in Addis Ababa for a 2014 FIFA World Cup final elimination play-off fixture first leg, with expectations of a large number of supporters in the stands rooting for the Eagles, after President Jonathan approved that a crowd of 200 supporters make the trip and cheer the national team to victory. “We are not surprised by our President’s decision to ensure heavy presence of Nigerian supporters in Addis Ababa for the match. This is simply another demonstration of President Jonathan’s fatherly love for, and keen interest in, Nigeria football. “We can go back over the years and recount so many things that our President had done to underscore this special interest and love. We adore him,” Maigari stated.
