NFL: Announcer Wont Say Redskins what do you think ? CBS football announcer Phil Simms is getting involved in the controversy over the Washington Redskins name and says he will not say the teams name when he calls their September 25th game. The former quarterback-turned announcer says he will simply refer to the team as Washington because he is sensitive to those who find the name Redskins offensive. His partner Jim Nantz though says he will not be taking sides in the controversy and will likely refer to the team by Redskins. As will fellow announcers Troy Aikman and Boomer Esiason. NBCs Tony Dungy agrees with Simms and will also likely refer to the team as Washington.
