NFL commissioner Roger Goodell did the right thing last week when he owned up to the NFLs less than adequate punishment for Ray Rices abuse of his now wife, and instituted severe penalties - leading to possible permanent banishment from the league - for domestic abuse in the future. But as I stated in a previous post a couple of months ago, without the video of Rice dragging his wife from the Atlantic City hotel elevator after his assault, it is quite possible that Rice would not have been punished at all by the NFL, and Im certain there would have been little if any public outcry about the incident. The story below documents as best it can the NFLs long sorry history of dealing with domestic abuse.
