NGC 514 - a spiral galaxy in the constellation Pisces NGC 514 was discovered on October 16, 1784 by the English astronomer William Herschel . This is the 12th volume of a spiral galaxy of type SAB ( rs) c in the constellation Pisces . Angular dimensions of NGC 514 are 3.7 to 3.0 arcmin . In the catalog Dreyer has been described as an object of weak , large, little elongated , very gradually and slowly shining toward the center , preceded by the two stars . Taking into account the available data concerning the transfer of NGC 514 the red , estimated the average distance of the galaxy from the Solar System , it amounts to about 96 million light-years , ie 29 420 Mpc . NGC 514 observed using the 45 -cm reflector appears to us as an object rather weak , quite large with dimensions of 2.5 x2.0 , elongated roughly east to west , with a wide and poor concentration , with edges that fade into the background with low surface brightness and granular or mottled texture. It lies on the west to the north-west at a distance of 3.1 minutes from 9.5 the size of the star , at a distance of 3.4 minutes in the south west we find the size of the magnitude 13.5 star . A few faint stars is very close to the galaxy , including , at the north eastern edge of the galaxy is a weak star 14 sized magnitude , at the southern edge of NGC 514 in just 1.5 minutes from downtown appears dim star 15 this size magnitude .
