NICA has been taking volunteers out onto one of the sand #islands in the #NoosaRiver for about 4 years now to carry out twice yearly weeding. It is in the area frequented by the yearly migration of shorebirds and waders and the island is closed to people for six months (October to March) so we go out just before the closure and just after it reopens. When we first started there was masses of Singapore daisy and asparagus fern but it is now slowly coming under control. Last week we took out over 20 volunteers hiring two O Boat pontoons and came back with 31 bags of weeds. The project has been extremely successful and the number of volunteers who continue to take part is just terrific. NICA is very appreciative of the assistance of O Boats Hire in this project, which is ongoing I have included a photo of one of our volunteers at work and also a photo of one of the #pontoons on the way back with the weeds on the front deck.
