Yaandina Frail & Aged Care Centre is a 20 bed aged care facility with dementia-specific accommodation completed this year in Roebourne, Western Australia. The project provides innovative residential aged care, high care and dementia-specific care to the Roebourne community. Designed with a large flyover roof, with penetrations to form a protected and secure central courtyard, the facility will home 20 residents. A fully functioning commercial kitchen, office administration support areas, podiatrist, hairdresser and commercial laundry create a facility that is unprecedented in the Pilbara and sets a new standard of care for the Roebourne and wider Indigenous Pilbara regional population. The Hostel is the only aged care residential service between Geraldton and South Hedland. They currently have nine frail and ageing local people in residence. The facility is funded by the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing through the national aged care benefit.The Hostel charges minimal fees as directed by and in accordance with legislation as residents are all recipients of government pensions and concessions.
