NICOLA Toia is a Health Promotion officer for Southern NSW Medicare Local covering Yass Valley, Goulburn and the Upper Lachlan. Nicole is the local area coordinator for the Heart Foundation Walking program. “I’ve been in my role since March and took on the heart foundation LAC role about three months ago.” Nicole is coordinating a walking group that is currently running in Goulburn. “This group has been walking for five years and they walk once a week, every week. “Once a month they have a morning tea after their walk. “They all love the walks as it’s a good way to get out of the house or office, be physically active and it’s great for socialisation.” The first Crookwell walk saw two keen walkers join in and it is estimated this group will grow as word gets out there. Weekly walks are planned every Tuesday morning from 9am for approximately 30 minutes. The walks start from memorial park on the corner of Robertson and Spring St. “We walk at a medium pace with all walkers welcome. Casey Floyd from the Crookwell neighbourhood centre will be the new walk coordinator for Crookwell. “The walks are a great way to fit in physical activity, meet new people and socialise with friends.” If people cannot make this time but are interested in walking groups you can contact Nicole and she will help and support them in setting up a walking group that suits them, including after works hours or weekends. Heart Foundation walking is a nationwide program Walks can target everyone, specific groups or even be registered as private walks. Examples of specific groups are parents with prams, seniors or office groups. Nicole’s contact information is: E: [email protected] W:48270515 M:0428262574
