NIGEL AMOS TO RESUME TRAINING Missing the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships due to a muscle pull injury might have been a big blow for Botswana’s Olympic medalist, Nigel Amos, but the youngster is certainly looking forward to the new season as he resumes training in October. Amos, who is based in South Africa, and is trained by one of the reputable coaches, Jean Verster said in an interview that his injury is 95 per cent healed. The 800m runner said he was disappointed that he could not compete in the world championships as it would have been his first world athletics championships. However, he indicated that all was not lost as he still had many chances to partake in future world championships. “I am still young and I can still compete in future championships and excel because my age favours me,” he noted. The Olympic silver medalist said he was happy with his training in Potchefstroom which he indicated had played a big role in his development as a young athlete. He further said the high performance centre and world class facilities were motivation for him as he was always willing to go an extra mile to keep fit. Amos said he was looking forward to competing in the 2014 series of the Diamond league which he said would help him to improve his times and become the best athlete. “I will be meeting with Botswana Athletics Association to discuss the way forward before going back to South Africa to start training,” he said. Amos said he could not wait to get back to the tracks to do what he likes best and continue making the country proud. BOPA
