NIGER DELTA COALITION FOR GOOD GOVERNANCE (NDCGG) THE BAN OF POLITICAL ACTIVITIES: A NOTE OF APPRECIATION TO THE RIVERS STATE POLICE COMMAND The Niger Delta Coalition for Good Governance wishes to commend the bold initiative of the Rivers State Command under the able leadership of CP Mbu for slamming a blanket ban on political activities including rallies of contending political parties. It is clear in our minds that Rivers State used to maintain its peaceful garden city status until recently when political high handedness led to the sack of the Obio/Akpor LGA Chairman, the physical combat at the State House of Assembly and outright collapse of the State House of Assembly. The specific mention of the two contending forces has again demonstrated the Commissioner’s fairness and sense of justice in the State. People struggle for political power because of service to the people and the Coalition wonders why it is seen as a do or die affair in some quarters. We commend the Rivers State Police Command your strength of character and your sense of judgement that allowing these rallies and activities can only fan the embers of resentment and heighten tension. It is our hope and prayer that the two contending political forces in PDP and APC adhere to this common rule of civility. On our own part, we shall monitor the political climate and report any suspicious movement by any group in the State. There should be peace in Rivers State henceforth.
