NIGERIAN RULERS, A DISAPPOINTMENT TO NIGERIA ACADEMIC SECTOR: Friends, let’s look into this issue: "How supportive Nigerian rulers are, to Nigerian youths in academic sector". I believe our rulers are so amazing in this direction, right? Good! At least, they have provided facilities needed to assist in achieving an academic excellence in Nigeria, this is very wonderful! Psychologically, morally, environmentally, and financially, government has been so supportive of Nigerian students; who will ever doubt this? Nobody! However, the tremendous efforts Nigerian rulers are inputting into Nigeria educational sector are now in the “Guinness Book of Records”, after all, their children are not even studying in Nigeria to pass through this hell Nigerians are passing through. Notwithstanding, the “Spirit of Pull Him Down Syndrome”, as being used by these rulers against Nigerian students, Nigerians are still doing exploits. Both, academically and otherwise, Nigerians are naturally endowed and always have a lead in various areas of life endeavors. And we are proud of Nigerians. I was in a company of a friend yesterday who was coming back from a meeting with the Nigerian who made the best academic result “First Class” at Imperial College of Science, Technology, and Medicine, University of London, 1998/99, Mr Osita Onuma. During our discussions, I reminded myself how Nigerians are making Nigeria proud in every sector, but what do we get from Nigerian rulers? Mr Osita Onuma, an alumnus of University of Nigeria, Nsuka was the overall best graduating postgraduate student at Imperial College and the entire University of London with an aggregate of 98.85 on a 100-point scale in 1998/99. During his days as undergraduate student in University of Nigeria, Nsuka, Mr Onuma scored 4.96 out 5 points, notwithstanding the frosty environment of Nigeria educational sector. What surprises me mostly was, the Nigerian President, as of the time, Olusegun Obasanjo, requested Mr Onuma to call personally on him in Abuja whenever Onuma returns to Nigeria for a personal congratulation and also directed Nigeria’s High Commissioner to United Kingdom, Prince Bola Ajibola to attend the University’s convocation where Onuma would deliver a valedictory address as the best student. Then, you ask yourself: From Obasanjo’s era, till date, what improvement have we got in Nigeria educational sector? As we are looking into this, friends, let’s read other Nigerians who have also excelled both in academic and also in various professions in UK.
