NIGERIANS REALLY ARE AN AMAZING LOT ! After failing to drag us - TopicsExpress

NIGERIANS REALLY ARE AN AMAZING LOT ! After failing to drag us into the maze of error on the issue of a certificate issued in 1961, a full 54 years ago, those around the Campaign Team for Mr. Jonathan are now twerking and invading the media space controlled by their cronies : AIT of Raymond Dokpesi et.al, to spread a message of hate and character assassination against the person of General Muhammadu Buhari. And, these are men and women who claimed to be Christians. Lying so blatantly and lying in their teeth with reckless abandon. In better climes, elections are contested, won and lost on issues of the performance of the incumbent versus the policy options of the outsider eager to win power away from the incumbent. No, Nigeria is not a sane climate, politically ! This PDP has been in power uninterrupted for 16 years, Mr. Jonathan had an unfettered control on the levers of power for six years. It seems they have no record to beat their chest over, therefore, they cannot and could not stand on issues. Instead, they and their duddle-fuddle supporters are just poisoning the political space with Lies, Deceptions and Innuendos. Added to these negatives are totally irrelevant issues and prisms they raise at will. Now, subtly our politicians are raising the subject of age : Youth versus Old Age. It is as if those young now will never grow old at some stage again. What really is the matter with us, Nigerians ! Age is just as irrelevant in the case of this election, just as the stupid obsession with certificates. Tunisia just elected a man aged 88 years old as their President. And, think of this : James Ibori, Lucky Igbinedion, Dimeji Bankole, even the President, Mr. Jonathan, were all relatively young men. What has their youth done to lift the heavy load of Nigeria in terms of good governance and performance ? Check their records. They have been abyssmal. And same with many state Governors and even down to Councillors. The wisdom of Solomon has nothing to do with the longevity of Methussellah and vice-versa. Get that, please ! Chief Obafemi Awolowo, amongst Nigerias political leaders old and current stands amongst the Stars. In fact, he it was that deserved comparison to any figure of international repute amongst our leaders. He never really attended university in the real sense of it. Pa Awolowo gained all he had in the study of Law as an External student of my alma mater, The University of London. For, then, that was the millieu of the times. Just as significant, during his days, there were many politicians who had degrees flowing out of their CVs, but they did not make any impact on their societies or on history. Nigerians would do themselves a world of good by realising that this election of 2015 will make or mar our destiny as a nation. Nigeria is faced with myriads of problems and challenges, the likes that we have never really faced before, apart from the Civil War of 1967-1970. Our Sovereignty and Territorial Integrity is being threathened by Boko Haram; Unemployment is our youths lots. Poverty seems to have found a Permanent Residency Status with us. Insecurity and Lack of Opportunities are ubiquitous : affecting all and all, Christians, Muslims and Animists; natives from all the four-cardinal points of the country. Our international image is at its lowest ebb. Then we do not seem to have the answers to any of these problems. What we have is a government that touts Budgets and Plans as achievement. A government that beats its chest on the 2nd Niger Bridge Project based on just the Schematic drawings and engineering design; same government and its vociferous vuvuzelas in the media never tires of reminding some of us of its great achievements in re-patching Lagos-Ore-Benin Road or Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Even as these were done in the 21st using the 1970s construction technologies and at the cost of new roads. Oh, what about those tokunbo rail wagons brought from China; some Pass-me-downs from China Railways. Folks, development and true tranformation is not done by propaganda. This government of Patchers & Repairers should hang its heads in shame. Worse is the mismanagement of the economy. Our euphoria about re-basing the GDP got us going agog for a while. Reality check is now staring us in the face. Thanks to the collapsed oil prices ! Heaven knows how we will service the new debt trap we were taken into of recent. Well, it is time we start discussing issues. Drop the odious subjects of Tribe; Region; Religion; Certificate; Age...and whatever the mischief-makers like Femi Fani-Kayode, working for his team, would want us to discuss. Finally, let us expunge our spirit of focusing on irrelevancies. Let us not lose time in useless acrimonies and repugnant mimicry. Nigerians, now is the time to decide our fate, and collectively rightly so. We must shake off this darkness which has engulfed our land. Let Light come !
