NIMBY for columbarium? Personally, I dont see any issue with the siting of a columbarium in Sengkang West or in Fernvale. This is a stones throw from where we live. But I do question why the HDB/URA did not make it clearer in its site map and plans that the temple will include a columbarium. In response to queries by The Straits Times, the HDB and the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) said the town map and site plan issued included notes which indicated that places of worship may include columbarium as an ancillary use. In other words, the HDB/URA is saying it is included in the fine print. Typical ass-covering excuses.
