NLRB/ DOL PRESS RELEASE: On March 10, 2014, the Regional Director of the Chicago Office of the National Labor Relations Board, Peter Sung Ohr, and the Director of the Illinois Department of Labor, Joseph Costigan, entered into a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen cooperation and collaboration between the Chicago Regional Office of the NLRB and the Illinois DOL. The MOU provides that if one of the agencies, during an interview or case processing, determines that the alleged conduct falls within the jurisdiction of the other agency, the agency will, with the individuals consent, refer the charge to the other agency. The MOU also provides for cross-training between agencies and for procedures for sharing of information between agencies where appropriate. The NLRB is an independent federal agency that guarantees the right of most private sector employees to engage in concerted activities for the purpose of mutual aid and protection and collective bargaining and to refrain from any of these activities.
