NMSC recently completed cataloging and rehousing the Planning Files from Acadia National Park (ACAD). These files are part of the park’s Resource Management Records, which, according to the NPS Museum Handbook, include all of the files that a “park needs to manage its cultural and natural resources effectively.” (Park II D:51) nps.gov/museum/publications/MHII/mh2appd.pdf NMSC archivist Margaret Welch described the ACAD Planning Files as enjoyable to work with, consisting of early master plans, conservation easement reports, studies of the park’s carriage roads, and, to use Margaret’s own words, “plenty of public and staff comments on how to run this beloved park.” NMSC wishes to thank Jessica Dumas and Mari Yarborough for their help with returning the collection to park storage after processing, as well as Rebecca Cole-Will, Chief of Resource Management, for her continued interest and good cheer. NMSC’s Teri DeYoung recently completed inventorying natural history specimens from the Appalachian National Scenic Trail (APPA), which until recently have been stored at Acadia National Park. NMSC will assist APPA in developing a repository agreement which will unite various types of collections stored in several locations along the Atlantic seaboard.
