NO. 653 CONTRACTORS HANDLING HOSPITAL RENOVATIONS URGED TO COMPLETE JOB ON SCHEDULE Contractors handling the on-going rehabilitation and renovation of the nine State Hospitals across the state have been enjoined to meet the stipulated deadline as Governor Rauf Aregbesola is determined to continue to patronize the best indigenous contractors who execute good quality jobs. The State Commissioner for Finance, Economic Planning and Budget, Dr. Wale Bolorunduro made the statement in Osogbo while receiving a monitoring team sent out by the Ministry under the supervision of the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Ayanleye Aina to assess the level of work at the various hospital sites. Dr. Bolorunduro explained that Governor Rauf Aregbesola has approved the sum of #1.7 billion to upgrade the age long and neglected hospitals in Ile-Ife, Ipetu-Ijesa, Ede, Iwo, Osogbo, Ila, Ikire, Ilesa and Ikirun to fast- track the free health care services of the current administration as enshrined in its six-point Integral Action Plan. Reports reaching the Commissioner indicated that work has started on seven of the hospitals except Iwo and Ede. Reacting, Dr. Bolorunduro expressed his dismay that most warehouses, and corpers lodges had become abode of wild animals, adding that labour rooms and kitchens are not better than unkempt abattoir, while mortuaries, x-ray departments, bed rooms and other hospital equipment have been damaged beyond reasonable level. Meanwhile, community leaders and traditional rulers across the nine Federal Constituencies where the hospital renovation works are on-going have commended Governor Rauf Aregbesola for doing the health sector proud. He said none of the past governments in the state had ever listened to the distressed call of the people on the poor state of hospitals, especially lack of drug supply until the recent intervention of Aregbesola-led administration. Dr. Bolorunduro stressed that the on-going renovation exercise will also create jobs for artisans, traders as well as food vendors in the State. NO. 654 LOCAL GOVT.
