NO CULTIST ATTACK ON OAU CAMPUS! “Opinions are free but facts - TopicsExpress

NO CULTIST ATTACK ON OAU CAMPUS! “Opinions are free but facts are sacred” I render utmost reverence to the entire Great IFE students and well meaning Nigerians as I respond to the false alarm of cultist attack on OAU campus. It is a known fact that physical assort, gangsterism, hooliganism, cultism and other vices are alien and antithetical to the culture of intellectualism which OAU is known for owing to our historic recalcitrant status quo of maintaining a consistent zero tolerance for any cult-like activities and every Great IFE student is prepared to go any length to defending the liberty we enjoy on our dear campus. The said attack on some members of the ideological group namely engels, sammy, juwon & co after their meeting held at the Students Union Building Tv room by a group of known students namely momohdu(politic al sciences level 4, Akuma(philosoph y part 4),Ayinla (elect -elect level 5) and Easy(faculty of art) is highly condemnable based on the norms and traditions of this campus. The fight between the two groups which I will assert here has its root in the long existing beef between the duo and was never a cult attack but a fight between two different groups of students with a party leaving injury on the other. Information gathered has it that after the first round of fight at SUB, the party that felt defeated mobilized themselves to town in retaliation which resulted into the brutal injury left on David who was said to have been mobilised by sammy to join the fight. It was due to the fact that the first party were over powered, led to them going to Awolowo hall(the most radical hall) to mobilized using the propaganda” cultist mobilized by union leaders attacked us” to appeal to the mind of the hall occupants(why Awo and not any other hall?) because they know that is the only propaganda they can sell to earn the interest and support of the students that unfaithful night owing to the fact OAU students will not tolerate any cultist activities near their campus. The roping of the Students Union into the whole issue was due to the existing beef amongst the leadership of the union and their affiliates. No doubt! The roping of the union was a mere strategy to score a political point and some Awoites were too quick to conclude/ judge without listening to the other side of the story which saw the unleashing of terror on innocent union leaders that same night of the event by beating them up unjustly and vandalization of their properties and that of the school. These wouldn’t have been easy for them but because the current OAU environment/ political terrain is being directed largely by emotions and sympathy while I strongly condemn the role played by the self- suspended VP and the Clerk. Let it be noted to the press and any other interested person(s) that the fight was not as a result of President Jonathan’s visit because our union remains non-partisan. More so, the moderation of the case was an abuse of legality and was treated in a political manner because the plaintiff/ complainants in the case still remains the ideological boys(Engels, Sammy,Juwon & co) while the defendants are Akuma,Ayinla & co because it was a fight between the two groups. How do we explain the plaintiff( Engels, Juwon & co) who served as the judge in their own case. At this point, an open moderation of the case should be allowed to be conducted by the Lord Chancellor(Chie f Judge of the Judicial Council) and as such, all students should maintain peace and calmness as the union is taking over/control because the more this issue is treated in a political manner, the more the threat to the security of our students both in town and on campus. We must arrest this issue now because it is gradually becoming a fight between indigenes and students owning to the maltreatment of two modakeke indigenes. ‘Great IFE’ is nothing anymore than a bathetic slogan in arousing students against students as beating becomes a benevolent gesture. Alas! We are a lost tribe as in the face of all these. We should see the negativity in the act of beating up one-another, for in the final analysis only a broad based re-appraisal of our methodology will take us anywhere near the way through the obstacles. We must mend up our division. we must replace beating with an enduring culture of intellectual engagement. We must halt this trend which is taking us more nearer becoming the generation that will take up arms and break Nigeria. We must eschew this habit of violence as is reflective of the kind of intolerance that leads to permanent anarchy. We must not be that much ruled by instincts and emotions as to be easily found wanting of reason in the face of crisis. Ideologies should represent the vision and ideals of people and not a misrepresented precipitate of violence and lawlessness. We must be able to distinguish between baseless propaganda from those which leads us to sensible and rational reasoning. Let us make use of the faculties of our reasoning which we are here to develop. Let us learn to bring our differences in opinion and be able to find a common platform for moving on with our aims and objectives in focus. La Lucha Sigue!
