NO DANCE PRACTICE today at 1.30/2pm (see below announcement) - TopicsExpress

NO DANCE PRACTICE today at 1.30/2pm (see below announcement) unfortunately! Unexpected change in plan - Andrea and her aunts will be happy to perform a PNG dance on the day but feel not sufficient time to teach others the dance before the 20th Oct for our Pacific Warrior event organised by this very group in 2 weeks! However, we do want to organise a video of each of the members of our UQ, GPA, QUT or any other university to show on the day, which will basically show each of us who want to support the campaign to just say a few short lines to show our solidarity with the Pacific warriors and their families. It will go something like this: My name is …. I am from (country)…. I go to the [university - if applicable], and I support the Pacific Warriors fight for climate action [or something like that]. If youre keen to be part of this video, well try and film today at the same time the meeting was planned (ie. meet at 1.30pm at merlos and we can film). If you want to send in a video of you saying those words too if thats more convenient please do. My email is [email protected]. Thank you all SO SO SO much for your enthusiasm, support and love in promoting and raising awareness of this important issue! Spread the word about our event on the 20th of October where we will be hosting 2 pacific warriors for a day at UQ and hear their stories about how climate change has affected their homes, lives and environment. It will be a day of islander celebration too, so bring your families and anyone interested to hear along! A Facebook event will be live very soon and flyers printed on monday for the event for us to disperse throughout uni. Once printed will send out a message of where you can pick up the flyers to paint the campus with. The event is entitled: Worriers to warriors - the faces of climate change and will include 4 great speakers including the 2 warriors, Kaio (Tuvalu) and Arianne (PNG), a Fenton who is representative from 350 and one of UQs very own lecturers, Dr Karen McNamara who is very passionate about this issue. There will be free food and cultural performances as well so attendance MANDATORY! Just kidding;). But itll also be an opportunity for us to wear our cultural/traditional attire - just cause we can;) So I invite all of you along, with your family, your friends and just the whole village. See you guys then!
