NO MAN BUT GOD SAVE US FROM SIN (from my own ‘WHAT I FIND IN GOSPEL MATTHEW) Matthew 1 : Life on earth is not a bed of rose. Every man suffers from physical as well as mental illness. Even the healthiest person has to suffer one day. All must die. No one has the power to save us from death. All of us have to work hard to live our life. There is no easy way to get health and wealth. One must work hard, study hard and follow the ups and downs of life. All these problems make life on earth misery. God loves us and made a plan to save us. Our only duty is to accept His plan to be saved from sin and its consequences. God created us like Him and to be with Him – to live peacefully with Him. All these unending problems in life are the result of sin. Sin separated us from God. Living far away from God, we all suffer from all these problems. Facts about this are properly recorded in the book of books, called the Bible. All the story of creation and beginning of sin entering in human life is recorded in the book of Genesis in the Holy Bible. Sin makes us slave under its powerful influence. Therefore, all live with problems and we become unfaithful to God. We cannot live a good life, cannot have even what we want. We all tell lie, deceive even our beloved ones, are not faithful to even our relatives, not to talk about faithful to God. All these are the result of sin. God still love us and want to save us from the power and consequences of sin. So, he made a plan to save us and restore the broken relationship with us. If we obey Him, we can become His children again. Having relationship with Him, we can overcome the power of sin. Because, sin and its power can not disturb those with God. Let us study Matthew, how Matthew writes about the Good news for us. Matthew chapter one tells us that Jesus is the Messiah or Christ (‘Messiah’ in Hebrew and ‘Christ’ in Greek; both mean Anointed One). ‘Anointed’ to be King of Heaven and Earth – having all power in Heaven and on earth. Verse 1 says “ This is the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah the son of David, the son of Abraham…” and verse 16 says “….Joseph, the husband of Mary, and Mary was the mother of Jesus who is called the Messiah” NOTE : Joseph is only the husband of Mary, not the father of Jesus. Because the Father of Jesus is God. But Joseph accepted Jesus as his son by obeying the command of God. Matthew 1:18-25 is read “ This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus because he will save his people from their sins.” ( Jesus is the Greek form of Joshua, which means the LORD saves.) All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet (Isaiah 7:14): “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”). When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. But he did not consummate their marriage until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.( Matthew 1:18-25 NIV) According to the Bible, the first man and woman, Adam and Eve had disobeyed God and acted on their free will. God must have been angry with them. Therefore, God had sent out them from His presence. Without God, Adam and Eve and all their descendants (all men and women on earth) live a miserable life under the control of sin and its powerful influences. So, all people face problems, suffering and death. Besides, in the absence of God, all have to suffer in hell after death. God loves us so much that He made a plan to save us from this power of sin. Therefore, He sent His Son, Jesus to save all the people of the world from the power of sin and its consequences, eternal death. Jesus came to this world as human being but was not from the blood of man. His Mother Mary was a virgin, who was conceived from the Holy Spirit (God). All men and women of this world are from the blood of man and women. No man, born of the blood of man and woman can save us from the power of sin. Jesus was born from the Holy Spirit and not from human blood. Jesus is the only one who can save us from sin and its consequences - eternal condemnation and eternal death. All who believe and accepted Him (Jesus) as personal Lord and Saviour will be saved. The Bible says, “God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son(Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”(John 3:16) If you want to be saved, pray the following as prayer by filling in the gapes with your name : “God so loved the ______________ that He gave His one and only Son (Jesus Christ), that ______________ believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Write ‘Amen’ if you pray. God bless you.
