NO Use Passport touts,Passport seekers Hyderabad:(SMNS) Passport seekers should be cautious before approaching touts for appointments, corrections and other passport related works. A woman from the city recently landed in legal trouble when she approached an agent for a change in date of birth in her passport, instead of directly approaching the passport authorities. The woman has failed to get redressal from the court and has been asked to approach the passport office for correction of the date. Rameja Syed had filed a writ petition in the AP HC regarding the inaction of the regional passport authorities in issuing a fresh passport following her application dated February this year. According to Syed, she had been issued a passport showing her year of birth as 1959 though she is born in 1979. On February 19, she had allegedly sent an application requesting the passport officials to issue a fresh passport with her correct date of birth. Following her petition, the court had asked the passport authorities to explain the reason for Syed not getting her new passport. Regional passport officer Dr K. Srikar Reddy informed the court that Syed had never applied for the changes to be made and that she had been driven by touts to approach the court directly without even submitting an application for change of entries. The writ petition of the applicant was disposed by the HC and Syed will have to follow due procedure. According to the passport authority, if an applicant needs to make corrections regarding his/her date of birth wherein there is less than two years difference between the original date and the incorrect date, it can be done by the passport authorities as per the guidelines. However, if the difference is more than two years, the applicant must approach the civil court for an affidavit for the corrections.
