NOMINATION STATEMENT - RANDY EILAND The future of AERC is directly related to membership growth and our number one objective as directors must be the reversal of the downward spiral in membership. Declining membership and the resultant lower income impacts every aspect of our interest and influence as AERC Members, including Trail Activities, Research, Education, Sponsorships, and Number of rides. Declining membership – from a high near 7500 in 2007 to less than 5000 in 2014 – will change the face of AERC if it isn’t stopped. It is very important that we get our New Membership growth back to 1,000 new members per year which was the bedrock of our growth from 1999 thru 2007. We must encourage more rides by providing assistance to Ride Managers – ultimately new members and easily accessible rides to keep them interested in AERC go hand in hand. We must put aside our petty differences and agree to make membership growth the number one focus for the future and then put in place programs that keep membership at the forefront. At the same time we can’t ignore the primary purposes of AERC which are outlined in our Articles of Incorporation. They represent our foundation for existing and are as important today as they were in 1972: Promoting the sport and past time of endurance riding; 2) encourage better care of our equines and prevention of cruelty to animals; 3) encourage the riding of historical trails and to preserve such trails for future generations; 4) Equine Research for beneficial use by the veterinary and medical professions;5) Education and educational articles, and 6) Awards for outstanding performances in endurance riding Qualifications *SW Region Sanctioning Director from 1992 thru 2005; Director at large 2007 thru 2014 *AERC Vice President 1998, *AERC President 1999 and 2000. *Chaired the following committees: Rules, Ride Managers, Sanctioning, and Sponsorship. *Served as a member of the following committees: AERC National Championship, Protest & Grievance, Competitions, Federal Land Management Relations, Past Presidents Committee, and Executive Committee. *I am currently an active member of the following 2014 committees: Chair of Sponsorship, AERC NC, Rules. *Founded the Sponsorship Committee in 1998 and have raised more than $250,000.00 in Sponsorship cash income since 1998, and thousands of dollars in products and merchandise. *Led the AERC effort to change FEI’s welfare culture thru the 2014 motion, “AERC Notice to FEI” that gained worldwide respect for AERC’s stand as a leader in this effort. These efforts helped pressure the FEI to make substantial changes in their approach to equine welfare issues and transparency, as well as a change in rules enforcement and fairness across the board *6,800+ AERC endurance miles and over 50,000 AERC endurance miles as a family *Ride Manager from 1983 thru 2010, including managing the first two AERC National Championships and scores of endurance rides in those 27 years I am available to answer questions related to AERC issues, my position on those issues; and how and why I voted as I have on issues. I love this sport and what it stands for, I believe in our founding principles, I have a history of doing what is best for the organization even when it would be easier to remain silent. For these reasons and more, I respectfully ask for your vote so I can continue to help AERC prepare for the future while protecting our traditions. Randy Eiland
