*NON-CANON PAIRING* Story: Merida is set to be engaged to one of the many suitors that have come to win her hand. She is utterly disgusted by them until a young Viking appears under order of his father. Stoick, the chief of Berk and the young mans father, claims that his son, Hiccup, can slay a mighty Monstrous Nightmare dragon. However, the moment Hiccup gets into the ring, Merida can see that he is different. Stoick is very upset that Hiccup disobeyed his orders and locks Hiccup up in the cottage they are staying at away from the castle. Meridas mother also gets angry at Merida after she comments that she fell for the dragon-training boy. But her mother says that a union with a boy like that would bring down their clans name. Merida finds Hiccup in his cottage and the two talk. Merida confesses that out of all of the suitors she saw the only one she would even consider marrying would be someone brave and kind like Hiccup. However, Stoick has already planned for Hiccup and he to return to Berk the next morning, so they say goodbye, vowing to see each other again. Several years pass and Merida ran away from home and is living in the wilderness. When she is exploring in a new area she discovers the wisps again, who lead her to Itchy Armpit, where Hiccup has gone exploring as well. Hiccup explains to her that he ran away from home as well. He introduces her to Toothless. At first Merida is afraid that Hiccup has changed from the boy she fell in love with, but she soon sees that hes still a kind, brave, goofball. Hiccup shows her the map hes been working on and the two decide to keep mapping the world together.
