NON LEAGUE VISIT # 81 Sandygate is officially the oldest ground in the world and its got a plaque to prove it! Also recognised as the worlds second oldest club having been founded in 1860 so why did it take me so long in visiting. It wasnt till September 2013-14 and that was because it was a Sunday FA Vase tie.I opted for train and bus and the latter dropped me off just outside the ground where i took my first photo before reconnoitring the grounds inner secrets which included cricket nets. This is Yorkshire! Space abounds and the business side - clubhouse, tea bar etc along with the seated stand is down one flank.I met Mark, for after Sheffield Wednesday, this is his club and later sitting in the stand we were joined by Paul,Darren and renowned hopper and keen Evertonian Graeme. I also met a chap whose son played for York Citys youth side but an ever bigger face there that sunny afternoon was Chris Waddle and no i didnt join the jostling queue for his autograph. For wasnt he who once missed a decisive penalty in a World Cup semi-final shootout and also assaulted our eardrums with Diamond Lights along with partner-in-crime Glenn Hoddle. His one redeeming feature is that he once played for Tow Law Town in the Northern League! The match itself does not lend me many memories and the thin programme was very basic but nonetheless a good day at the office...
