NORTH TO SOUTH AND SEEDS OF DISCORD ...by Poetic Tee Here, take a sip The north and the south are typical, all the same Hausa, Fulani, Kanuri or Nupe, just a name When it comes to apportioning much blame All the ethnic groups are bearers of the shame. Down where the ocean kisses the beach The Yoruba, Igbo, Ijaw and Itsekiri must each Know the difference, our regions we ought to stitch Lets not take something foreign for our own, out of breach. The north despite ignorance by many entities Is multi-religious, full of strange ethnicities Islam, Christianity dominating most societies Yet at the creeks, all are lumped as possibilities. The south has its peculiar culture, ample traditions Our people that can equal any in global trends and fashions Much travelled, inventors, innovators, full of animations Yet, to the savannah hintherland, many hug their notions Striped of our pride, made willing to be a mat While others are striving to be cunning and smart Our national liberty we allow to be taken, torn apart By slumbering where letters and numbers must impart. None faces a worst dilemma than the middle-belt north As a typical Northerner, hes massacred in the south Yet hes hunted as a hypocrite, non-believer up north Like a bat, hes neither a bird nor a mammal, nor both. Pitched against each other like beads on a score The pitchers laugh as they strike, asking for more Towering above while we all scatter on the floor Unity in diversity was our strength-source before. Our founding fathers each strove for our unity Despite finding it hard for all zones to fall in conformity Sardauna, Awo, Zik, leaders, who celebrated our nationality But, future generations failed, sowing seeds of discord and enmity. O Nigeria, bearer of brunts, pains and many losses Full of potential, both human and mineral resources Land spread out, arable, ready, under natural forces With knowledge waiting for harvest in different courses. Thy children are of the same house out at moonlight play In a mix with others from the hood, having fun all day When the sun sets, each rushes home to a meal on display Where a sound father and mother instruct Let us all pray. Call them to order, let them each listen with wisdom Some might be strong, others might be weak at random They can only succeed, if united they seek their freedom Sacrificing differences, compromising to build a kingdom. See them not, a grand plans being executed in summations To prevent them from rising above all the other nations Using tribes and faiths, bomb-blasts and damnations Cutting them down, burying their hopes and aspirations. Unabatted, blood river of the innocent flows to the banks Your iroko trees are being cutted down, sawn into planks Worst of it all, some are even catalysts in the reaction tanks So wake up yall before all loaded catridges become blanks. Whos doing this and what can be done to stop it? To the first question, answers deep. Yet the solutions in it Some suggest Only prayers. Good but, add some actions to it And soon the two will be a formidable force, bound to break it. (c)2014 Tijjani M. M. All Rights Reserved
