NOSTALGIA: Sometimes thoughts of yesteryears of Mombasa the now insecure in motherland Kenya yetu comes into my mind when i was a young pupil with my khaki short and checked shirt at Amani primary school...in those days our Mikindani was a village, home away from my United Siaya in short U.S...as children growing up in Mikindani village we used to board KBS and nyayo buses for free and drink free nyayo milk...our digital of those days was watching dog fights and playing kibe...hide and seek games in the today promoted village of Mikindani which is now a fully fledged estate....then on weekends well go grasshopper hunting-parare we called them...then there was this Rastaman he loved children and he will always allow us to go in his maembe dodo farm behind our school Amani and well climb the giant mangoe trees...then pluck many dodo mangoes...we were not allowed to pelt the mangoes with stones...those who couldnt climb will do the work of collecting...during weekends we were visiting my aunt in Changamwe or if not we were driven to Lotus cinema along Nkurumah road and patriotism for Kenya yetu was the highest order, in the Cinema theatre well start with our Kenya yetu national anthem..all will rise up and caps off as we remain at attention before the film starts...those days our favorite film was Walker Texas Ranger by Chuck Noris and the likes of Dharmendra....during them days street of Mombasa were flooded with safety, cases of robberies were unheard of...strangers were always so polite...Makadara hospital was the best... grenade attacks...gun shots... were unheard of except rarely tyre bursts....the only notorious criminal was Jack Zolo of my life in crime...Kenya yetu was real Kenya yetu those days....
